Dear Editor – Impressed with McMorrin

Letter to the Editor:

I am writing to encourage citizens of Culver City to vote for Yasmine McMorrin for City Council.

She is an impressive candidate and an impressive human being.

Yasmine is an attorney, equity advocate, vice chair of the Culver City General Plan Advisory Committee, and parent. She is Interim Dean of Students and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the USC Gould School of Law.

I admire Yasmine McMorrin for her plan to place equity and inclusion at the center of every policy and budgetary decision. And I appreciate her top priorities. One of these priorities is addressing the need for more affordable housing for those who live in homes and for those who are experiencing homelessness. Another of her top priorities is working together with the community to reimagine public safety.

Yasmine engages with everyone in our community. It’s particularly important to her to listen to people who have been marginalized because of race, religion, immigration status, gender or sexual orientation.

Culver City has been taking important steps toward attaining equity for marginalized residents, and with Yasmine on City Council, we will be positioned to do even more.

  1. Why will she not unambiguously support the prompt implementation of the fraud, waste, and abuse program/hotline that both the Finance advisory Committee (6/12/19) and the City Council (9/9/19) fully vetted and unanimously adopted? She feels that the current-worthless hotline is “sound” as Council Member Sahli-Wells told her so. This is someone upon whom we cannot depend to root-out and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse in Culver City. Also, she is not licensed to practice law in California.
