Temple Akiba is hosting a second forum focused on homelessness and housing. The forum will be Tuesday, January 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Temple Akiba, 5249 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City 90230. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

“Our October forum focused on understanding the scope of homelessness. This upcoming forum will focus on four specific initiatives and ways all of us can help,” stated Ira Diamond, Temple Akiba President and a member of the Culver City Homelessness Committee.

Karlo Silbiger, Chair of the Culver City Committee on Homelessness, will speak about incentives for landlords to increase affordable housing. Jason Robison, Director of SHARE, will talk about providing affordable, permanent supportive housing in single family homes. John Helyar, Outreach Teams Manager for HOPICS (Homeless Outreach Program Integrated Care System), will explain how SAFE Parking stabilizes people living in their vehicles and connects them to resources. Lee Winkelman, California Organizing Director, Religion Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC), will talk about how to identify and support legislation to alleviate homelessness.

Following the panel presentations, each panelist will serve as a resource for a breakout group focused on how the community can support these initiatives and turn compassion into action.
