This group deserves a big pat on the back for its 2015 accomplishments: In five creek cleanups from February to November with up to 100 volunteers at each event, BCR collected over 1,970 lbs. of trash, 780 lbs. of recyclables, 425 lbs. of hazardous materials, un-weighed totals from a small cleanup, and an un-weighed amount of invasive plants – a 2015 total of 3,175 lbs!
Congratulations to Colette Moore, who will serve as Culver City Chamber of Commerce Chair for the 2016 year. Ms. Moore is the owner of the local franchise of Pridestaff, one of America’s leading employee placement organizations. In 2015 Pridestaff Culver City was named one of the area’s top small businesses at the California Small Business Day as well as the Top Minority Business. (In 2014 Pridestaff, Culver City was named as one of the top hundred minority owned businesses in the Los Angeles area.) Ms. Moore will be installed on Friday, January 8 at an 8:00 a.m. breakfast – sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m. – at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 6161 W. Centinela Ave. Cost is $30.00 for members, prepaid; $35.00 for not-yet members prepaid; $35.00 at the door. RSVP by 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7 by visiting [email protected] or calling (310) 287-3850. Culver City Chamber Installations are known for their really festive and fun programs as well as their well-planned timing, meaning you won’t be too late getting to work. This year the Culver City Chamber is proud to have Assembly member Sebastian Ridley-Thomas as the master of ceremonies and installing officer.
Culver City Exchange Club members Ken and Linda Owens had dinner with former member Gary Wolf, who is doing well and says “hello” to everyone! Gary worked for Bert’s Menswear many years ago, retired there and then worked in Membership at the Culver City Chamber for several years before retiring to the Palm Springs area.
Looking for a relaxing break from the holiday pace? Enjoy the music of the Mystic Knights Trio, “an American Roots and Blues Trio” this Wednesday, December 23 at Gaby’s Mediterranean, from 7:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m., featuring Dave, Sonny, and guest Charlie Chan on harmonica and vocals. They play every Wednesday night at Gaby’s, 10445 Venice Blvd., where the music and food are great, and you can even “BYOB”. All ages are welcome to relax on the heated patio and enjoy the evening. Then, this Saturday, December 26 take a real breather at Hinano’s, at 13 Washington Blvd. – almost on the sand at Marina del Rey. This time it’s the four-man “Hound Dog Dave & the Mel-Tones” American Roots and Blues Quartet, comprised of Dave, Roger, Sonny and Rick. Tired of turkey or roast beef? Hinano’s is known for the “best burgers in town.” Free Popcorn, reasonable drinks, pool, a fun crowd, and a great band night, too!
If you missed Santa driving down your street, don’t forget he’ll be at Westfield Mall this week from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. And if you’re looking for the perfect fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and gifts, the Culver City Farmer’s Market is this Tuesday, December 22 from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on the “shortest Main Street in the world,” Culver City’s. (Speaking of Main Street, is it true we’re losing some eateries there? No more BottleRock? Menchies? And nearby Chop Daddy’s closed this past weekend. Is Native Foods on the endangered list? Our guess is rents are rising and there are more, possibly avant garde restaurants wanting to move in…)
Just because you may be a “senior” doesn’t mean you have nothing to do, to wit: The Culver City Senior Center is full to the brim of activities, such as fitness classes, tai chi, ballroom dancing, movies, travel, watercolor art classes, yoga, line dancing, language classes, computer classes, educational seminars, Saturday dances, ceramics and drawing holiday parties and much more! Drop by the beautiful Center, located at 4095 Overland Avenue, corner Culver Blvd. or call (310) 253-6700 for membership information.
Holiday countdown birthdays this week include Michele Cerra Lachoff, Kyle Deise, Laura Stuart, Shelly Blaisdell , Silvia Garacochea, Katie Shery, Olivia White and Howie Jacobowitz.
