What could be more appropriate for a concert in Culver City, the Heart of Screenland? The Culver City Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Arlette Cardenes, will present “Classical Music Meets the Movies” this Saturday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m. at Culver-Palms United Methodist Church. Here’s a tasty fundraiser! The Culver City Cultural Affairs Foundation will be the beneficiary of 10% of all sales (dine-in or pick-up) at Pitfire Artisan Pizza, 12924 W. Washington Blvd. this Wednesday night, October 23, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. This Dine and Donate Fundraiser will help make sure Culver City’s Cultural Programs get a “piece of the pie” (get it?).

Costumes? Treats? Scary Fun? The Culver-Palms Family YMCA is presenting a night of Free Halloween Fun this Friday, October 25 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. There are Haunted Corridors, Treat-or-Treating throughout the Facility (located at 4500 Sepulveda Blvd.), a Costume Parade and Cup Cake Walk, Halloween Crafts and Games, a Free Photo of your kid in costume, and special food for purchase. Also in Halloween mode, Grace Church will be hosting a Masquerade Ball this Sunday, October 27, where members will bring a dish to share and desserts and beverages will be provided, along with dancing and door prizes. The cost is $3.00 per person, or $10.00 for families. The party will take place in the Parish Hall at Grace, 4427 Overland Avenue.

Culver City’s own “Hound Dog Dave and the Mel-tones” — American Roots and Blues Quartet – will be appearing this Friday night, October 25, at the Hinano Cafe (didn’t it used to be just plain “Hinano’s”?) . They’ll be on from 5:30 p.m. — 9:30 p.m. Hinano’s is located at 15 Washington Blvd., Venice, and you

can’t get much closer to the beach at this location. Dave will be featured on guitar for this show. Enjoy the music, the popcorn, the beer, and the burgers!

It’s tee time and the Culver City Chamber of Commerce invites you to go golfing at Malibu Golf Club in Malibu! The Culver City Chamber/Culver City Education Foundation Golf Tournament is set for Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and tee time is 11:44 a.m. The 6,614 yard William Francis Bell-designed course offers 18 holes of championship golf in a breathtaking setting just 45 minutes from Culver City. Individual players may register at $175.00, with sponsor-level entries going up from there. Coming up this Saturday, October 26 from 9:30a.m.-noon you can join members of the Ballona Creek Renaissance (BCR) in helping with the Ballona Wetlands Habitat Restoration. Led by Friends of Ballona Wetlands (not BCR), this volunteer event typically occurs on the fourth Saturday of the month. Join in to help restore the last coastal wetland in LA County and learn about wetland ecology. The Friends provide gloves and tools. Children under 15 must be accompanied by a parent. Our thoughts go out to the Chabola family on the passing of Jerry Chabola’s dad, Joe. Services were held on Monday, October 14 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice.

Members of the Culver City Rotary Club and their guests will enjoy a night of dinner and the silent movie version of “Phantom of the Opera,” this Saturday, October 26. They’ll meet at 6:15 p.m. for dinner at Chef Hannes, then walk over to the Silent Movie Theater at 8:00 p.m. to enjoy the show.
