Calling for a Fair Contract, Food Workers Walk Out @ Sony Pictures Entertainment

On October 7, 2025, dozens of dishwashers, cooks, cashiers, and other workers who prepare and serve food at Sony Pictures Entertainment walked out on strike for a fair contract.

Cafeteria workers at Sony Picture Entertainment have been fighting for better wages and benefits since 2024. The workers are employed by Wolfgang Puck Company, a subsidiary of Compass Group.

They are the latest group of workers at a Compass Group cafeteria to strike this year.

In July, commissary workers at DreamWorks walked out on strike for a fair contract. Workers at Walt Disney Imagineering walked out in September.

Maria Heranadez of UNITE HERE offered some background. “Earlier this year, workers at the Sony Pictures Entertainment studio cafeterias walked out on an “unfair labor practice strike,” alleging that their employer, Compass Group-subsidiary Wolfgang Puck Catering, had engaged in unlawful surveillance and interrogation.”

The workers’ union, UNITE HERE Local 11, is in ongoing negotiations with Compass Group.
