Culver City Symphony – A Little Russian Romance on a Sunday Afternoon

the Culver City Symphony’s Sunday afternoon winter concerts continue with “A Little Russian Romance” on April 19, 2026, at 4 pm in the Robert Frost Auditorium.

The CCS  will welcome Alicia Huang and Minji Choi (pictured), the Junior and Intermediate winners of the 50th Anniversary edition of our Parness Competition, to join the Orchestra in movements from violin concertos by Kabalevsky and Tchaikovsky. Please join us in celebrating these two future stars of the concert stage!

Maestro Clyde Mitchell and the orchestra continue our cycle of Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies with the joyful No. 2, “The Little Russian”(the 19th-century term for “Ukrainian”). Inspired by time spent visiting his sister near Kyiv, Tchiakovsky incorporated several Ukrainian folk songs. Borodin’s “In the Steppes of Central Asia” evokes a caravan crossing the measureless desert, as the songs of the Russians and those of the Asia locals mingle in common harmony.

Admission to this concert is FREE – no tickets required
