Enjoy classical music on Sunday, January 20 at 4 pm with the Culver City Symphony. The afternoon winter concert will open with works by two of the greatest 20th Century American composers, Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber. We are delighted to welcome the Senior winner of the 50th anniversary edition of our Parness Concerto Competition, Esme Arias-Kim, in Barber’s Violin Concerto.
Music Director Clyde Mitchell continues our cycle of Brahms’ Symphonies with No. 3, written when Brahms was at the height of his powers.
Esme Arias-Kim is a nineteen year old violinist born and raised in Chicago. At age ten, she made her solo orchestral debut with the Oistrakh Symphony. Most recently, Esme was named a semifinalist in Cedille Record’s Emerging Artists Competition, the winner of the Crain-Maling Foundation Chicago Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition, the Silver Medalist of the 2023 Stulberg International String Competition, and the Gold Medalist of Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s 29th Annual Young Artist Competition.
Esme is currently studying at the Colburn Conservatory with Robert Lipsett. She plays on an 1866 Vuillaume violin, generously on loan from the Geeting Family.
Admission to this concert at the Robert Frost Auditorium is FREE – no tickets required. RSVP via Eventbrite at https://bit.ly/4qnxw2E for concert updates.
