Dear Editor:
I am writing in response to your August 13, 2025, news story entitled “Masked Gunmen Create Havoc at Handy J Carwash.”
While I absolutely believe that this was horrible, indefensible, and should never happen, and that our current federal government is out of control, not identifying the “masked gunmen” as ICE agents (either actual or apparent) leaves the public with the impression that this was a heinous crime committed by ordinary street “criminals.”
This was (either actually or apparently) a federal government action. Not calling it out for what it was diverts the blame from the people behind these things and onto people that are generally referred to as “criminals” (with the often-racist undertones that accompany such assertions).
We should call this what it was–a federal attack on a Culver City business and its employees. Anything less gives quarter to the people behind these horrific undertakings.
