CCHS Student Photos with CalArts CAP Photography

CCHS students Giselle Cruz, Mia Haneline and Sam Steiner participated in a group show with other high school students from across Los Angeles at the Old Town Newhall Library on May 11.

Completing the CalArts CAP Photography Lab Program over three months of Saturdays this spring, they learned to take photos on film and to print in the darkroom (in both black & white and color). Bill Miranda, Mayor of the City of Santa Clarita, singled out one of Mia’s photographs in his opening remarks.

“These three students are already each enrolled in two art classes each at CCHS, including Art & Culture, Yearbook Design and AP Studio Art,” said CCHS yearbook teacher Susana Fattorini, “yet they took the hour-long bus that CalArts provided for three months of Saturdays to continue to develop (pun intended!) their photography.”

CalArts’ Community Art Partnership program offers free opportunities for high school students in all the disciplines taught at CalArts. The photography show, entitled “From the Sweet Flypaper of Life”, inspired by Roy DeCarava and Langton Hughes’ book, will be up until July 16, 2024 at the library (24500 Main St. in Santa Clarita.)
