CCUSD Spring Concerts – Elementary, Middle Schools and AVPA Tuning Up for Performances

The calendar is filled with music as the students of CCUSD prepare for all kinds of spring performances, open to the public to soak up the magical acoustics of the Robert Frost Auditorium.

The CCMS Spring Choir Concert is set for Tuesday, May 21, 7 pm and CCUSD’s Elementary Spring Concert, Thursday, May 23, 6 pm 3rd grade Recorders and 7 pm Band and Orchestra, will bring together students from all five elementary schools to make music.

In addition, AVPA’s Culver City High School music program is in full swing. The program has been preparing for two spring concerts, while also performing at exceptional events in the community.

The Culver City HS Concert Band performed at UCLA’s Royce Hall on April 26 as part of the UCLA Wind Ensemble Invitational. Eleven high school bands were invited to perform in the historic concert hall. Each school’s 30-minute concert was followed by a clinic to work on ways to improve the ensemble’s technical and musical performance. The Culver City Concert Band worked with Dr. Shelley Axelson from Montclair State University.

On May 3, the AVPA Chamber Singers performed with the Los Angeles Master Chorale High School Choir Festival at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Singing with nearly 1,000 other high school students, the Chamber Singers performed music conducted by Master Chorale director Grant Gershon and world-renowned composer Eric Whitacre.

Two AVPA Jazz Combos performed at the Culver City Education Foundation’s Tribute to the Stars reception on May 4, continuing a long tradition of supporting CCEF’s annual gala.
