Culver Citizen’s Police Academy Now Accepting Applications

IMG_1254The Culver City Police Department is currently accepting applications for its Citizen’s Police Academy. The Culver City Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy is designed to educate residents and local citizens on the various aspects of law enforcement. It is for those interested in learning more about how the Culver City Police Department functions and operates. There are many misconceptions about police duties and the Academy will help dispel these notions and allow community members a closer look at their police department.

The goal of the program is to open the lines of communication and encourage interaction between our police officers and the community. Graduates of the Academy will acquire a solid foundation of public safety information to share with others in the community. The Citizen’s Police Academy is not intended to train the participants to be police officers, but rather it is designed for those interested in a deeper understanding of the various challenges and decisions that a Culver City Police Officer deals with on a daily basis.

The academy is eight weeks, meeting on Tuesdays, and will begin on July 11th and run through August 29th 2017, 6:00-9:00 PM. This includes the opportunity to attend a patrol ride-along. The course curriculum will include the Criminal Justice System, Development of a Police Officer, Tactical Options, Traffic Enforcement, Special Responses, Forensics, Investigations, and Community Preparedness.

Persons selected to attend the Citizen’s Academy will be notified by mail and/or phone at least two weeks prior to the beginning of classes. The selection process requires a limited background check due to security concerns and the sensitive nature of some of the material.

All applications will be retained and considered for future classes. For an application please visit us at www.culvercitypd.org and click on Citizen’s Police Academy in the left hand column. Print and complete the attached application, and review the program outline. You can then either mail in or drop of your completed applications to the Culver City Police Department attention Lieutenant Troy Dunlap. Applications must be received by July 3rd, 2017 for consideration. Call (310) 253-6258 if you have any questions.
