Branch Gallery Goes “Recycled” With Artist Valya

unnamed-1Join us at Branch Gallery for an artist talk with VALYA to discuss the work in her latest exhibition, “RECYCLED.” Learn more about VALYA’s history as a fiber artist, her techniques, and her inspiration for this exhibition on Saturday January 14 at 3 pm.

“RECYCLED” focuses on the idea of “being recycled,” drawing inspiration from the notion that the Universe continuously recycles cosmic dust. The works on display use leftover materials to emphasize this understanding that everything is recycled. Such mediums include: threads, newspaper, fabric scraps, second-hand clothes, wool, glue gun, glass beads, and various leftovers from other projects in VALYA’s previous exhibitions.

VALYA utilizes many fiber techniques, including mono printing, quilting, felting, and painting on silk to create her imagery. VALYA’s primarily neutral color palette and experimental forms are prominent in both her art works and her art-to-wear works (e.g., garments). “RECYCLED” will be on view through Thursday, January 19th.

Branch Gallery is a fiber-based art space in Los Angeles. The gallery emphasizes both exhibition and education in its 1500 square feet of multifaceted space. Providing opportunities exclusively for the fiber arts, Branch Gallery allows fiber artists to share their work and techniques with the broader Los Angeles arts community. Bringing more attention to fiber as a fine art, along with its presence as a craft, will inspire others to create their own tactile fiber experiences. Inglewood has become known for its vibrant arts district and budding arts scene (as reflected in the New York Times and LA Business Journal)

The Branch Gallery is a project of The Knitting Tree, L.A., a fiber retail space recently relocated to Los Angeles’ Inglewood.
