AVPA Winter Concert – Dec. 8

unnamedHaul out the holly! Culver City High School’s Academy of Visual and Performing Arts will hold its annual Winter Concert this Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building. Five featured music ensembles will deliver plenty of holiday cheer, including the Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Chamber Singers.

Among the highlights of the family-friendly evening: a holiday “mash up” by the Concert Band called Christmas Bells are Ringing, favorites from A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Grinch performed by the Jazz Ensemble, and the Hanukah song Hanerot Halalu performed by the Chamber Singers. The Orchestra will perform Serenade for Strings by Norman Leyden, along with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian by Harry Gregson Williams.

Also on the program will be Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Flourish for Wind Band (Concert Band), a Cuban-inspired version of the classic We Need a Little Christmas (Chamber Singers), and a quartet of singers performing the Pentatonix hit That’s Christmas to Me. Another special treat will be vocalist Isabel Parra in performance with the Jazz Ensemble.

In addition to the main event, AVPA’s flute and clarinet ensembles will provide pre-concert music beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free; donations are welcome and benefit the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. Veterans Memorial Building is located at 4117 Overland Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90230.
