Generous Shoppers Fill CCUSD Backpack Program with Food and Funds

unnamedThe CCUSD Backpacks for Kids Fundraiser on the 13 & 14th of August last weekend was so successful,  the program will be able to start the school year will ample food and ample funds.

Canvassing the crowds shopping at Studio Village Pavilions, the stalwart volunteers from the District Council PTA, the high school and the School Board got $5760 worth of food, an additional $430 cash, as well as $330 in gift unnamed-1cards, which can be given directly to the students, making the net for the weekend $6535 total!

The program, now going into it’s 5th year, ensures that children who qualify for free lunches at school do not have to go hungry over the weekends. By giving them a backpack of food, they can help kids in serious need to make it through.

Big thanks to Vons/Pavilions, all the volunteers and the generous shoppers of Culver City.

  1. We can always use more donations for the Backpacks Program. We supply 100 students and their families with a backpack of food to carry them through the weekend during 36 weeks of the school year. The program is completely based on donations. There is no funding from the state or the school district.

If you would like to make a donation, we can stretch the money when we buy the food. Please go to http://www.ccbackpacksforkids.com/#!donate/c1rzs

Thank you on behalf of the kids and the Backpacks coordinators: Leslie Gardner, Megan Rawles, and Jamie Wallace
