Greg Krentzman of Culver City was on vacation with his wife, Sophie, and daughter, Lola, on the night of the attack in Nice, France that left 84 dead and hundreds injured. The family was on the promenade when the rampage began.
Krentzman told ABC News’ Linzie Janis that Sophie’s quick thinking saved his life. “My wife screamed out ‘Greg! Jump! There’s a truck in front of you going right at you!'” Krentzman said, describing the moment he realized something was wrong. “She saved my life, I would never have known that the truck was there.”
Krentzman was speaking to ABC News while recovering in hospital. The truck sliced his leg in three places and crushed his foot, he said. He also credited his wellbeing to the goodwill of a French man, and said he wants to find the Good Samaritan who drove him to the hospital so he can thank him.
“I’m lying there, my teeth are chattering, I’m freezing cold because I’m losing a lot of blood,” Krentzman said, recalling the moments when he sat bleeding while emergency services were overwhelmed. “This good Samaritan showed up — a French gentleman in his car -– to take me to the hospital because there were no ambulances available because there were so many dead bodies everywhere.”
His daughter, Lola, was also injured in the attack. “Her ankle was broken; she has a cast on it,” Krentzman said. “She’s being so strong and tough, I’m so proud of her and I love her so much.”
“I’m just so happy that we’re all alive. You know, I mean, I’m just feeling so blessed right now,” he said.
