CCHS Wins Prestigious ‘Democracy School’ Accreditation – Help This Program Thrive

culver-city-high-schoolThis past weekend, CCHS became 1 of 12 California schools that is officially honored with The Democracy School Accreditation! Some of our goals are to teach students the importance and processes of voting, civil dialogue, and taking action to solve a problem in their community.

In line with the last goal above, it’s important to recognize and reward students who go above and beyond for their community and help inspire more students to become more engaged in the world they live in. Last year, Evan Dumas was awarded the first-ever “Centaurs in Action – Civic Engagement Scholarship” for his commitment to the environment, which included installing a sustainable garden in front of the Frost Auditorium.

In order to keep the Civic Engagement Scholarship going, donatations are being sought for this fund. All donations are welcome. You can donate at: webstores.activenetwork.com/school-software/culver_city_high_sch/index.php?l=product_detail&p=378

You may also donate cash or check directly to the account (without the credit card fee) by contacting Phyllis Heiner at CCHS. Once you submit the donation, you may request a tax deduction receipt from Phyllis. The tax deduction receipt is not automatic.

More information about the Democracy School Initiative can be found at: www.lacoe.edu/CurriculumInstruction/HistorySocialScience/CaliforniaDemocracySchool.aspx or by contacting the Coordinator, Dr. Carlos Valverde, at CCHS.
