Senior Center Health & Wellness Program Offers Companionship, Commitment

Senior-womenA new program through Jewish Family Services helps at-risk older adults, ages 65 and older, continue living independently and aging in place by matching them with a volunteer Health and Wellness Coach. The role of the volunteer Health and Wellness Coach is to provide companion services and social activities, dedicating a couple of hours a week meeting with their matched senior(s) at the senior’s home or out in the community.

Volunteer Coaches receive training prior to starting, as well as ongoing monthly support once matched, and help connect their matched senior to necessary community resources while promoting socialization and diminishing social isolation. Volunteers in the Senior Health and Wellness Program are similar in age as their matched senior 55 years and older and are asked to make an ongoing weekly commitment.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer for this program, please contact Jill Thomsen at (310) 253-6722 or at [email protected]
