GetAttachmentAnd the Beat Goes On Dep’t.: Last Tuesday’s speaker at the Culver City Exchange Club meeting was Nick Larsen from Culver Automotive. Nick is the grandson of the late Vern Larsen, the club’s past president. Culver Automotive was started 50 years ago by Vern, then was closed for a while for remodeling. It reopened on February 11 of this year and Nick is extremely satisfied with the customer response since he has taken over the business. He and his staff are available for whatever the customer needs and you’ll probably see a familiar face: three of his current four technicians also worked for Vern! Most importantly, as soon as he feels the business is firmly established, he wants to carry on the tradition and join the Culver City Exchange Club!

Start counting your calories and doing more situps: Culver City’s getting new restaurants as we speak! Wildcraft Pizza has been temporarily closed for remodeling and will reopen later this month as a full-scale Italian restaurant called “Wildcraft.” Coming up in the Hayden Tract is “Craftsman & Wolves,” set to open in Spring 2015 inside the PLATFORM Hayden Tract project. It’s a second location for William Werner’s celebrated San Francisco bakery and café that’s in the heart of the Mission District. We can’t wait to try “The Rebel Within,” – an egg inside a yummy corn muffin, plus other pastries, cakes, confections, desserts and savory dishes. The Culver City location will feature a contemporary design with a wrap-around garden patio.

Put on your Fiesta shoes and get ready to party – this is the weekend! Fiesta La Ballona, Culver City’s “Party in the Park” will be held this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 22-24 at Veterans Park. Get ready to enjoy live music, food trucks and lots of other food concessions, a beer and wine garden, carnival rides, artisan gift items, and tons of attractions for all ages. Ride the rides, dance to the music, see friends and neighbors and make new friends – the fun begins this Friday at 4:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.; Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., and Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Culver City schools start on Monday, August 25, so this is a great way to wrap up summer vacation! For additional information, visit www.fiestalaballona.org. (P.S. – purchase a $25.00 wristband for just $20.00 in advance for unlimited rides on Saturday or Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. if you buy them by this Friday at 6:30 p.m. They’re available at the Culver City Recreation Office, 4117 Overland Avenue on Monday 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.; and Tues-Friday, 11:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Each band can only be used for ONE day, by only one person.)

Most people know that whoever the current president of the Culver City Rotary Club might be, he/she is bound to find their official gavel missing early in their term. New president Joel Forman (he’s just celebrated his first month in office) has come upon what appears to be a solution to that problem: according to Dannie Cavanaugh, editor of the club’s Reciprocator newsletter, “President Joel is now keeping it in a holster on his hip. I’ve never seen that before! Maybe there is cottage business in gavel holsters waiting to be launched.” It’s nice to hear that ailing Club members are continuing to improve: Harold Hanslmair is feeling better and is planning to be at the meeting this week.(Harold said he will be at work on Monday and he said he is going to walk into his office and say “the party’s over” to his staff.) Bob Thompson had a clean-up surgery on his ankle and he seems to be doing better, and Chuck Perelman had cataract surgery and hopefully that went well.

They’re Beatles-Bound! A group of around 40 Beatles fans from Grace Lutheran Church will be carpooling to the Hollywood Bowl this Sunday eve for a picnic supper before they enjoy what promises to be a great evening of music!
