Sally Copeland – How to Help a Helper

Sally Copeland, a very active member of our Culver City and our CCUSD community, passed away on Tuesday, July 31. She died after a valiant and vigorous battle with breast cancer. Her husband and her daughters were by her side.

Sally was in leadership positions with the PTA and Girl Scouts. She was an incredible baker and was the “go to” person for any bake sales or dessert needs. Despite her health, she co-organized and baked the majority of offerings at the last Casino Night. She always pitched in and helped whenever she could.

There are several ways you can honor her memory. Love your family and your friends with all of your heart. Pitch in and volunteer where ever and whenever you can. If a friend is in need, don’t hesitate to help them out. Bake a meal, drive them for grocery shopping or appointments, go for a walk, listen, etc.

The Sally Copeland Memorial Fund has been created. Funds will be used to defray costs that have been incurred and continue to build up during this difficult time including medical, funeral/burial, etc. The monies will be collected by long-time friend and neighbor Anne Finestone. Anne will take care of collecting the donations, then issue checks directly to Charles Copeland so he does not have to deal with deposits and record keeping. Anne will maintain a list of donors, which will be presented to the Copeland family.

  1. I will always think of Sally with love, admiration, and appreciation.

She made a real difference in this community and in this world. She will be dearly missed.

I join countless people in extending my heart to Charles, Emma, Fiona, and her entire extended family. She was a gem of the highest order.

  2. I first met Sally many many years ago when we both were in our first jobs after college. We stayed in touch through the years through holiday cards & photos, even though we were miles apart. We hadn’t been in touch recently, and something made me reach out today. In learning of her passing, I am deeply saddened. The bright spot is that I had the joy, honor & privilege of knowing her in her lifetime. Even years ago Sally was loving and giving and did all she could to contribute to others lives. I’m blessed to have known her.
