Do you like to talk about your business, but work best in a small, informal setting? The Culver City Chamber of Commerce program, “Network @ Noon”, offers an opportunity for members to network with just six other Chamber Members over lunch. Chamber President/CEO Steve Rose, you, and six others will enjoy making connections and eating lunch at various Culver City restaurants for $20.00 per person. All you need to do is register, pay, and then bring your business cards, marketing materials, and an appetite for good food and great networking. You must be a Chamber member to attend, and please, only one person per business. The next N@N is coming up is this Wednesday, July 11 at 12 noon sharp at the DoubleTree by Hilton Los Angeles, Westside, 6161 Centinela Ave – SHARE Restaurant. The cost is $20 prepaid, and reservations are a must. You need to be a Chamber member to attend, and RSVP by 1 PM Tuesday, July 10. Call (310) 287-3850 or drop by the Chamber Office at Westfield (Fox Hills).

Westside Unity Church’s selection of its new pastor (and knowing the church as we do, we know it’s been a downright friendly competition) featured the second of the two finalists last Sunday, Rev. James Daly. The selection (the other candidate is Rev. David Matthew Brown) will be announced soon! Westside Unity is located at 10724 Barman Avenue.

What’s cookin’ at Culver High? Plenty! The Culver City Education Foundation is extending a
big thank you to Eydie Desser for her very generous donation of a brand new Jenn – Air Kitchen worth $18,000 to Culver City High School! Chef M, who teaches cooking at the school picked out two Jen-Air 36″ downdraft cook tops and two 48″ pro-style ranges with griddle and convection oven which were delivered and installed in the spring of this year. Ms. Desser, a trained chef, can’t wait to come back in the fall and help cook with the students. (This is very far from my “Home Ec” days at CCHS in the mid-50’s…)

There was a huge collective sigh of relief this week at the Culver City Exchange Club when Earl Eskridge provided the Health & Welfare Report: Young Heather Larsen, granddaughter
of Darlene and the late Vern Larsen consulted a new doctor at UC Irvine, who reviewed her case and was able to totally remove a brain tumor from which she’d been suffering. She is expected to make a complete recovery!

Hooray – it must be summer! Culver City’s Boulevard Music Summer Festival kicks off in the City Hall courtyard this Thursday night, July 12 beginning at 7:00 p.m. (gates open at 4:30 so picnickers– is that a word? – can get set up) with The Bonedaddys’ Rock, Funk, African, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Rock Steady, Jazz, Blues, Highlife, New Orleans Second-Line, Gospel, Hillbilly, Zydeco – you name it. After intermission (Starbucks or Cold Stone anyone?) it’s Los Pinguos (“The Penguins”) with a mixture of Latin rhythms, salsa, flamenco, reggae, rumba, Argentine rock, and sambas. Admission and parking are both free, and there will be more concerts to come! (New this year: 100 premium reserved seats will be available for entry-level sponsors at $10.00 each. Call Boulevard Music
to book – (310) 398-2583 if you’d like one of these spots) Don’t forget – if you don’t choose to picnic, there are lots of nearby restaurants where you can eat first, during (some Culver Blvd. eateries have patios that are perfect for combining dinner and listening to music) or after.
Next Sunday, July 15 marks the Culver City Emblem Club #254’s big Parking Lot Sale. Emblem Clubbers (wives, spouses, etc. of Culver City Elks Lodge members) will be showing off dozens of new or gently used articles at the Sale, which takes place in the Elks parking lot, 11160 Washington Place. Rummage Queen for the event is Barbara Johnson, so be sure to say hello. Hours of the Sale are from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., so hurry on over!
