CCMS Gets National Youth Theater Awards

Congratulations to the Culver City Middle School Theatre Arts program, which recently earned three National Youth Theatre Awards and eight nominations!

National Youth Arts announced the winners of its Seventh Annual National Youth Arts Awards to honor outstanding work by youth in the arts at a ceremony in Newport Beach. This year, more than 230 productions were considered for the awards, including shows from more than 100 different theatres in more than 50 cities spanning 11 states.

Formerly the National Youth Theatre Awards, the organization is now beginning to celebrate the other arts including Music, Dance, Film, Writing, and various other art forms.

This year’s award winners were selected from nominations by a panel of more than 20 judges and reviewers. In addition to the youth who performed in the youth theatre companies, anyone age 18 and under who performed at a show reviewed by a National Youth Arts judge was also considered for the awards, as well as the adults who participated in the youth productions backstage (directors, set designers, costume designers, etc.) and a limited number of guest adult performers in professional productions designed for youth.

Culver City Middle School earned awards for:

Outstanding Ensemble (Junior Division): Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Outstanding Ensemble (Junior Improv): Comedy Improv

Outstanding Supporting Actor (Junior Division): Robert Washington as Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The program also received the following nominations:

Outstanding Production (Junior Division): Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Outstanding Lead Actor (Junior Division): Cameron DeFaria as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Outstanding Improv Performer (Junior Division): Milo Bechtloff in Comedy Improv

Outstanding Improv Performer (Junior Division): Sofia Frohna in Comedy Improv

Outstanding Improv Performer (Junior Division): Thanassis Tetradis in Comedy Improv

Outstanding Featured Actress (Junior Division): Sarah Toutounchian as Potiphar’s Wife in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Outstanding Direction: Diane Feldman for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Outstanding Direction: Jennifer Flack and Eric Price for Comedy Improv
