Artworks 2011 Farragut Fundraiser – April 16 at Royal/T

Farragut Elementary School has an “Arts and Technology” focus and parents have come together annually to raise money to keep art and music education at the school.This Saturday, April 16th from 7 to 11 the Farragut Fan Club is hosting an adult only  Gala Fundraiser at Royal/T Artspace in Culver City. Event participants will partake in cocktails, Royal/T signature appetizers, an Asian-fusion buffet dinner and a pandemonium of desserts. The event will include a silent and live auction. A highlight of the live auction is a Warner Bros. “Porky Pig” Cartoon Hand Painted Cel donated by Martha Sigall, a long-time resident of Culver City and a former cel painter with Leon Schlesinger Productions, home of Looney Tunes. In addition, attendees will observe artists Obi Okafor and Doug Blechner create onsite a painting and ceramic piece, respectively. 200 parents and community leaders are expected to attend.

“We are pleased to once again have the sponsorship support of Royal/T and Joxer Daly’s to help us raise needed funds for visual and performing arts education at Farragut,” says Christine Johnson, Chairperson for Artworks! 2011. The Gala Fundraiser marks the conclusion of the four-week Artworks! 2011 fundraising effort that began on March 19 with a Community Arts Day at Farragut Elementary School and an online auction (www.biddingforgood.com/artworksforfarragut) that ends on April 15 at 8 PM.

Money raised through the Artworks activities will go toward covering the cost for a part-time Artist-in-Residence to teach bi-weekly art classes to children in all grades and music education for all students in partnership with wonderful organizations such as Do-Re-Mi, Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, L.A. Opera, and the Music Center.
