It’s Up to You – Frances Talbott-White
How easy should it be to negotiate a state budget? Props: 25 and 26 I have this lovely fantasy that today, the Sunday before our Gubernatorial Election, folks are having a leisurely read of the ballot pamphlet and making their final decisions on the statewide propositions. I keep tweaking the way I look at the ballot measures, and will continue to share my thoughts with you as we get down to [...]

Coming to our Senses on Pot – Hanna Liebman Dershowitz
As a mother, as a lawyer, and as a taxpayer, I am more excited about voting in the November 2 election than I have ever been about a vote in my life. That’s because the ballot provides an opportunity to reject and denounce what I know is one of the worst public policy mistakes in American history, namely, the prohibition of marijuana. The victory of Proposition 19 will get the government off [...]
Award Winning Essay – Cameron DeFaria
Editor's Note - When a local student wins a contest this big (see post below) we thought it fitting to publish, not just the news, but the essay itself. Congratulations Cameron! A Melting Pot of Heritage by Cameron DeFaria In many American’s vision, Latinos are a strong element in our society. For many others, they are felt to be not so strong. Through the eyes of Los Angeles, [...]

This ordinance has been in effect since the mid-1990's, but has not been seriously enforced due to the cost. I always assumed that leaf blowers contributed to air and noise pollution on [...]

On Tuesday Oct. 19, the CCEF pulled out chairs and poured coffee at Akasha to thank some of the locals who have been helpful this past year. The choice of Akasha as a venue, (known for their emphasis on local, organic and sustainable resources,) was even more appropriate with the presentation on teaching children how to make healthy food choices with the "Growing Great" program. Many notables [...]
