Vera’s Funeral and Donation Requests

Rather than sending flowers, mourners of former Mayor and Sorrento Italian Deli owner Albert Vera Sr. should instead send a donation to the Santa Monica Salvation Army Corps in his name, a spokeswoman for the Vera family said on Friday, June 4.

The Salvation Army’s address is P.O. Box 7065, Santa Monica, CA 90406. Alice Barriciello, a niece of Mayor Vera’s who is helping to coordinate funeral plans, also confirmed that services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, at St. Augustine Church. The church is located at 3850 Jasmine Ave.

After a funeral procession that will pass by City Hall and his longtime store on Sepulveda Boulevard, Mr. Vera will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave.The family, in respecting Mayor Vera’s wishes, has not scheduled a viewing, rosary or reception.
